Definition

A/V

Audio/Video.

AD

Microsoft Active Directory or Microsoft Azure Active Directory. This term is commonly used for both, but they are different implementations.

Agency

A generalized term used to define an organization e.g. Police Department, Fire Department, or Federal Agency.

ALPR

Automatic License Plate Recognition.

Annotation

The process of adding an outline box and description to images and video.

API

Application Programming Interface.

APNAccess Point Name.

Asset

Refers to any digital evidence files uploaded to EVM e.g. video, audio, images, and documents. Covered here.

Asset Bucket

A working folder for managing Assets. Covered here.

Asset Group
Multiple Assets that are grouped together due to being captured by the same User, at the same time, and same GPS location, or if uploaded together via the Upload Asset feature.

Asset Tag

Identifying marker typically used for inventory purposes. May contain a barcode for scanning.

AVL

Automatic Vehicle Location. Displays the active location of a Unit on a Map.

Bitrate

The number of bits per second that can be transmitted along a digital network.

BlackBox Recording

Background recording that can be recovered in the event of a User not activating a standard recording. Covered here.

Bookmark

Marks a point in time during a recording. Typically used for quickly jumping to that point in time while reviewing.

Breadcrumb

Marks a GPS location at a particular point in time during video playback.

Buffering

Computer processing of video for user playback. Commonly occurs when network speeds are inadequate.

BWC

Body Worn Camera

CAD

Computer Aided Dispatch. Computer program for managing and dispatching Units.

CA-MF50S

Analog Camera Model Number.

CA-NF21

Getac Fixed Focus IP Camera Model Number.

Case

A collection of Assets with additional descriptions, metadata, collaboration, and sharing capability.

Category

A method of cataloging specific types of recorded incidents and applying a retention period before deletion.

CCTV

Closed-Circuit Television.

CHAPChallenge-Handshake Authentication Protocol.

Checksum

A small-sized block of data derived from another block of digital data for the purpose of detecting errors that may have been introduced during its transmission or storage.

Covert Mode

A feature on both Getac BWCs and MVS that allows the operator to conceal that they are actively recording.

CPUCentral Processing Unit.

CSV

Comma-separated values.

CU-D50

Getac 5” Display for MVS, Edge, and Interview Room systems.

DVR

Digital Video Recorder e.g. the VR-X20.

DEMDigital Evidence Management.
ECEmbedded Controller.
EdgeMobile Edge Solution. A computer and video capture system in one package.

EULA

End User License Agreement.

EVM
Enterprise Video Management. Getac's enterprise-grade Digital Evidence Management suite.
ExceptionsRepresent any records reported by the Windows operating system to EVM.

Firmware

A specific class of computer software that provides the low-level control for a device's specific hardware.

FTP

File Transfer Protocol.

GND

In DC electronics, a terminal that is designed to be wired to a vehicle's ground wire terminal e.g. negative terminal on a battery.

GPIO

General Purpose Input Output.

GPS

Global Positioning System.

Heatmap

Provides a visual representation of location data with saturation. Covered here.

Hot List

A list of license plate numbers corresponding to active vehicles of interest.

HS-01Getac Holster Sensor. Provides BWC activation if a firearm or Taser weapon are removed from a holster.

HTML

Hypertext Markup Language.

HTTP
Hypertext Transfer Protocol.
ICCIDIntegrated Circuit Card Identification. SIM card number.

I/O

Input-Output Terminal.

IE

Microsoft Internet Explorer.

IGN

In DC electronics, a terminal that is designed to be wired to a vehicle's ignition circuit. This is a circuit that only provides current when the vehicle is running or in accessory mode.

IMEI

International Mobile Equipment Identity.

IMSIInternational Mobile Subscriber Identity.
InactiveA Unit Status that indicates a Unit has been deactivated.
InCarGetac video recording software that powers the MVS, Edge, and Interview Room solutions.

IP

Internet Protocol.

IP AddressInternet Protocol Address.
IPX Rating
Ingress Protection Code. Specification for dust and waterproofing.

IR

Infrared.

IRSA

Legacy product label referring to the MVS application. 

Keyframe

A keyframe is a location on a timeline that marks the beginning or end of a transition.

KPI

Key Performance Indicator.

LAN

Local Area Network.

LDAP

Lightweight Directory Access Protocol.

LTE

Long-Term Evolution.

MAC Address
Media Access Control Address.

Master Asset

The Primary Asset in an Asset group. This Asset is the first to be shown in the list from the Main Assets Page.

MasterDockGetac BWC software solution. A data mover application for uploading videos and pictures from a Getac multi-dock or Windows Computer to EVM. Commonly used to describe a Getac multi-dock as a whole.

MD-02D

8 bay multi-dock solution for the BC-02 BWC.

MD-03D8 bay multi-dock solution for the BC-03 BWC.

Metadata

Data that provides information about other data, but not the content of the data, such as the text of a message or the image itself.

MIC

Microphone.

MiFi

Cellular router that provides WiFi Hotspot capability.

MIL-STD-810A United States Military Standard that emphasizes tailoring an equipment's environmental design and test limits to the conditions that it will experience throughout its service life, and establishing chamber test methods that replicate the effects of environments on the equipment rather than imitating the environments themselves.
MIMOMultiple Input Multiple Output.
MMCMobile Country Code.
MNCMobile Network Code.
MMSMultimedia Messaging Service.
MMSC
Multimedia Messaging Server Center. See MMS above.
MOLLE
Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment.

MVS

Mobile Video Solution(s).

NCIC

National Crime Information Center.

OfflineA Unit Status that indicates a Unit is currently offline. The last known GPS coordinates are shown on the AVL Map.
Online w/GETACA Unit Status that indicates the InCar UI is currently open and in use by the end-user.

OS

Operating System.

OTA

Over-the-Air.

Overlay

Asset metadata presented as text information on top of video playback.

PAPPassword Authentication Protocol.

PCM

Pulse Code Modulation.

Phidget

A physical representation or implementation of a GUI widget e.g. an on-screen dial widget could be implemented physically as a knob.

PIP

Picture-In-Picture – referring to video playback in a window within another video playback.

POE

Power over Ethernet.

PortTCP/UDP Ports.
Pre-recordRecording that takes place prior to pressing a record button or activation trigger intended to capture action leading up to a recording. Typically 30 seconds or more, this overwrites itself after the prescribed time and begins again. Also known as "buffer mode."
ProxyProxy Server.

PTZ

Pan, Tilt, Zoom. Feature that allows cameras to be moved to change the perspective.

Queued

An Asset that is in line for processing by EVM.

Radios

Refers to all WiFi, Cellular, and Bluetooth communications emanating from a Getac device.

Redaction

In digital evidence management, the process of censoring, clipping, or obscuring parts of a video Asset for legal or security purposes.

RegEx

Regular Expression – Used to script text validation format checks.

Retention

The length of time an Asset is available until it is purged.

RFID

Radio Frequency Identification.

RMS

Records Management System. Application for managing all records within an organization.

RTCC

Real-Time Command Center.

Segments

Refers to either smaller physical files that make up a complete video Asset or partial video clips for joining in the process of video redaction.

Sensors & Events

Hardware and software electrical inputs waiting for a response matching a specific set of criteria that trigger other events e.g. Light Bar is turned on. Commonly referred to as simply "Triggers."

SIM

Subscriber Identification Module.

SMTP

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol.

Snapshot

A still image saved from a single frame of video.

SSID

Service Set Identifier.

SSL

Secure Sockets Layer.

Station

Stations are used to organize Assets, Units, and users and typically reflect real-world structure or chain of command e.g. Police Department with multiple precincts.

StandbyA Unit Status that indicates that a Unit has powered on and background services are running, but the InCar UI is not currently open.
SKUStock Keeping Unit.
SUPLSecure User Plane Location Protocol.

Sync

The process of synchronizing a BWC internal clock and configuration with an MVS or EVM.

Tagging

The process of associating an Asset to a case.

TB-02Getac Bluetooth trigger box for the BC-02, BC-03, and BC-04. Used for wiring into vehicle triggers and integrating with Getac MVS to facilitate wireless recording activation.

TCP

Transmission Control Protocol.

Trigger Box

Bluetooth device used for activating a BWC recording.

UIUser Interface.

Unicode

An international encoding standard for use with different languages and scripts, by which each letter, digit, or symbol is assigned a unique numeric value that applies across different platforms and programs.

Unit

MVS, BWC, Edge, Interview Room, or other device running Getac video software.

UnregisteredA Unit Status that indicates a Unit has not completed registering to EVM.

URL

Uniform Resource Locator.

UserA real-world person that has access to EVM. They can be setup and managed natively in EVM or via AD.

VCC

In DC electronices, the voltage common collector terminal for wiring positive electrical connections.

VD-02

Single device docking station for the BC-02 BWC.

VR-X10

1st Generation Getac DVR - Discontinued.

VR-X20

2nd Generation Getac DVR - utilized for Getac MVS, Edge, and Interview Room solutions.

VR-X20 F1
1st Generation low-cost Getac DVR - utilized for Getac Moble Video Solutions.

Watcher

Users and/or User Groups that can be assigned to receive updates when cases are modified.

WAV

Waveform Audio File.

Widget

A chart, table, or KPI information area on the dashboard.

WiFi

Wireless networking protocol.

WindowsMicrosoft Operating System.

WPA

WiFi Protected Access.

XML

Extensible Markup Language.
