Start Recording

New recordings can be started by, pressing the record button in the center of the display, the talk button on the wireless microphone once, the record button on a paired BWC, or by a number of triggers that are configured and wired to the MVS*.

*Note:
Trigger configurations are unique to each deployment. For information regarding which triggers/sensors are in use by your Agency, contact your administrator or support@getacvideo.com for more assistance.
The following occurs once the start record button is pressed:
  • A beep will be heard with a flashing red LED indicator on the record button as well as a bookmark message bubble (the number of beeps and bookmarks is based on how many cameras are recording).
  • All cameras that have been configured to activate with said button press will begin recording (this includes any paired BWCs if in use with a trigger box and wired to do so).
  • If not already shown, the display will automatically change to the Video Capture screen to show the live recording.
  • An on-screen indicator will also be visible to indicate that a recording is in progress.
  • An LED on the front camera will turn on to allow for the operator to see through a window that a recording is in progress.

See the image below for a visual example:

Ex. Start Recording

Note:
  • The MVS may be configured to beep at a pre-defined interval so that the operator is aware of a recording. This audible cue is disabled during Covert Mode.

  • BWCs can be configured to activate the MVS.

  • Different configurations exist that allow for the record button to only capture a specific camera unless triggered by an additional sensor, e.g. front camera only and backseat only once the rear door has also been opened. Consult with a Getac Video Solutions Architect or support@getacvideo.com for more information.

Additional actions that can be taken during recording include:

Bookmark

Bookmarks can be added to recordings and reviewed after the fact during Playback. Once a Bookmark has been placed, an orange message bubble will show on the display (See ex. 3 below).

Bookmarks can be added in the following ways (ONLY while recording):

  • (While recording) Press the Start Record buttonon the display once. See Ex. 1.
Ex. 1 Add a bookmark with the start record button

    • While recording, Press the Talk button on the Wireless Microphone*. See Ex. 2
    *Note:
Not all MVS systems utilize the wireless microphone. If using a BWC as a wireless mic, use the Bookmark/Snapshot feature on BWC.

Ex. 2 Add a bookmark with the wireless microphone

    •  While recording, press the Bookmark icon on the CU-D50
Ex. 3 add a bookmark with the touchscreen
Note:
An orange message bubble will appear any time a Bookmark is placed on the video timeline. See Ex. 3 above for an example.

Snapshot

Pictures can be taken with the MVS at any time. To do so, simply press the small camera icon located in the bottom left of the video capture screen.

A camera shutter noise will be heard, and an orange message bubble will appear confirming capture. Repeat this process as often as needed.

Ex. snapshot taken and saved successfully

Note:
Pictures taken while recording group with the video and upload together to Getac Enterprise as part of an Asset Group.

Mute/Unmute Audio

There are two ways to mute/unmute audio capture on the MVS*:

*Note:
A log event for when audio was muted/unmuted will be applied to the Unit Log. The mute feature CANNOT be disabled on the MVS.

  1. Press the mic button on the CU-D50
    Ex. mic button

  2. Press the mute button on the wireless mic pack*.
*Note:
Not all MVS systems utilize the wireless microphone. In this scenario, only option 1 is applicable to mute cabin audio. BWCs CANNOT mute the MVS.

Change Camera View

To change which camera is actively being displayed, press the Change Camera View button. This action can also be taken when not recording.

By default, views will cycle as shown:

  • Front Camera
  • Backseat Camera
  • Front/Backseat Picture in Picture (PIP)
  • Backseat/Front PIP
  • Side by side
  • Picture on side
  • All cameras

Stop Recording

To stop a recording, press and hold the stop button* until the red light on the record button on the display turns off.

*Caution:
New Users to the system often mistake the record button for the stop button. Pressing the record button while recording ONLY adds a bookmark to the video.

The following occurs once a recording has been stopped:

  • The flashing red LED indicator on the record button will turn off.
  • All cameras that have been configured to activate with said button press will stop recording (this may include any paired BWCs if in use with a trigger box and wired to do so).
  • The on-screen indicator will say Not Recording
  • The LED on the front camera will turn off.
Once a recording has been stopped, the operator will be prompted to categorize it for retention purposes. See Categorizing Assets for more information.
Note:
When following this procedure, BWCs may be configured to stop recording automatically with any MVS cameras.
